How to Measure Your Child for the Perfect Fit

Getting accurate measurements is the easiest way to ensure a great fit — and happy little ones! Follow these simple steps before selecting a size.

Clothing Sizing

Garments fit true to size. If your child is between sizes and below or above the average size for his or her age we recommend purchasing a smaller size or the next size up for the perfect fit.

Take the following measurements using a soft measuring tape: measure your child's chest, waist, and height with your child standing straight.

• Chest — measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape parallel to the floor
• Waist — measure around the natural waistline, just above the belly button
  
• Height — measure from the top of the head to the floor without shoes

Refer to our size chart to find the best match — and when in doubt, size up. Our pieces are designed with a relaxed, classic fit to allow for movement and layering.

Smocking Dresses

Our smocking dresses are designed to have a snug fit, fitted bodice. If you prefer a looser silhouette or if your child is between sizes, we recommend sizing up for a more relaxed fit.

Shoe Sizing

Children's shoes fit true to size. If your child has wide feet and above the average size for his or her age we recommend purchasing the next size up for a more comfortable fit.

How to measure your little ones foot. Getting the right fit starts with one simple measurement — your child's foot length.

The old-fashioned paper and pen technique is a quick and simple way to measure your child's foot. Simply, draw a line from the heel to their little big toe. Using a ruler or measuring tape, have your child stand on a flat surface and measure from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe in centimeters or inches. For the best fit, we recommend measuring both feet and using the larger measurement. If your child falls between sizes, we suggest sizing up for growing room and added comfort.

Children grow so fast — what fits perfectly today may be snug in just a few months! If you find your little one between sizes or unsure, we always recommend sizing up. A slightly roomier fit today means more wear time and better value for your little one's wardrobe. Our clothing and shoes are designed with growth in mind — a little extra room never compromises the look, and tiny toes will have the space they need to grow, explore, and keep up with every adventure ahead.
